Department of Safety and Fire Engineering was established in 2020 with a strong focus on providing high-quality education in the field of Safety and Fire Engineering. The department’s main goal is to address current and future safety challenges while offering education and training to students in various sectors like oil and gas, aerospace, chemical, assembly & manufacturing, and construction. This education is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage safety concerns in these industries using engineering methods. The department offers a comprehensive approach to education, including training, research, and access to state-of-the-art safety equipment facilities. This combination of theoretical knowledge and practical training helps students understand safety concepts in a real-world context. The department also emphasizes motivation and support to help students excel in different aspects of their education, including curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities.
The Safety and Fire Engineering program is designed to develop competent fire safety professionals who can create and maintain safe environments against the threat of fire. The curriculum covers a range of methods and techniques necessary for safeguarding people, the environment, and property from the risks posed by fires. This could include studying fire behavior, prevention strategies, emergency response protocols, evacuation procedures, and more. Its purpose is to train people in the field of Safety and Fire encourage and integrand approach to the reduction of life and property loss from fire by effective educational and awareness programs. The department pursues this goal by conducting several courses for the public with extensive practical training.

Programme Outcomes (POs)
Program Outcome describe the knowledge, skills and attitudes the students should have at the end of a four year engineering program.
Engineering Graduates will be able to:
- Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
- Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
- Design / Development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
- Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods, including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

Department Activities
April 4th – “International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action”
The day raises global awareness about the impact of landmines, explosive remnants of war (ERW), and other explosive hazards on individuals, communities, and societies. This heightened awareness fosters a better understanding of the challenges faced by affected populations and the importance of addressing these issues. The day serves as a platform for advocacy and mobilization efforts to garner support and resources for mine action initiatives. Governments, international organizations, NGOs, and individuals use the occasion to advocate for increased funding, policy support, and action to address the threat of landmines and ERW.
On 4 th of April 2024, the most awaited event was organized at Excel Engineering College. The event from 10.00 AM. The celebration raises global awareness about the devastating impact of landmines, explosive remnants of war (ERW), and other explosive hazards on individuals, communities, and societies. This heightened awareness helps to educate people about the risks and consequences of these hazards, fostering a greater understanding of the need for mine action efforts.
Right to Information (RTI) awareness rally
The RTI rally is organized by Tamil Nadu pollution control board in association with excel engineering college for making public awareness in rural areas on 8th of October 2023. It started from Komarapalayam municipality office to JKK metric higher secondary school. During the rally issued the bit notice to public, rights, process of apple, submit request, view status and support for the Development of communities and the irrigates.
World patient safety day-2023
Department of Safety and Fire Engineering organized awareness program on World patient safety day on 20.09.2023. Theme-2023 “Engaging Patients for Patient Safety”. The Program Coordinated by Mr.K.Gopalakrishnan, Assistant Professor, Department of Safety and Fire Engineering.
World First Aid Day
Knowledge of first aid promotes a sense of safety and well-being amongst people. Having an awareness and desire to be accident-free keeps you safer. First aid is the first and immediate assistance given to any person with either a minor or serious illness or injury, with care provided to preserve life. The aims of first aid are to preserve life, prevent harm, and promote recovery. By celebrating the program students get awareness about safety and also students taken pledge related to safety precaution of using the safety elements. Program Coordinated by Mr.B.Surender, Assistant Professor, Department of Safety and Fire Engineering on 11.09.2023 at Safety and Fire Engineering Laboratory.
National Level Awareness Program on “World First Aid Day” Theme-2023 “First Aid in the Digital World”
On 09th of September 2023, the most awaited event was organized at Excel Engineering College. The event from 7 pm to 8 pm where in students participated enthusiastically. World First Aid Day is significant as it serves as a reminder of the role first aid plays in saving lives and lessening suffering during emergencies. This day raises awareness and encourages individuals and communities to equip themselves with life-saving skills. On World First Aid Day, Resource Person: Mrs.Sonia, Associate Professor, HoD of MSN Dept, Excel Nursing College. The program was coordinated by Mr.S.Saravanakumar & Mr.N.Prithiviraj, Assistant Professors, Department of Safety and Fire Engineering.

World Food Safety Day – June 7 th 2023
This Awareness program is to practices deep conceptual understanding to raise awareness about the risks associated with unsafe food and to promote action to prevent, detect, and manage food borne diseases. Food standards save lives.” Most people depend on the information in the packaging of consumable items to know whether their food is safe. This Program would pave a gateway to researchers and fresher’s of the Safety knowledge and Food in smart manufacturing. International Fire Fighters Day

Department of Safety and Fire Engineering organized awareness program on “International Firefighters Day” on 04.05.2023 in Safety and Fire Engineering Laboratory. Program Coordinated by Mr.K.Gopalakrishnan Assistant Professor, Department of Safety and Fire Engineering.
International Firefighters Day is observed annually on May 4 internationally, and this year is no exception. Fire is a powerful force and has a reputation for being destructive, but there’s so much more to fire than that. It gives energy in the form of heat, and light that is critical for our survival. However, when this element is out of control, it can be disastrous. It’s important to remember though, that fire is only as dangerous as the person who wields it. International Firefighters Day raises awareness of the importance and safe use of fire.

National Road Safety Week
January 11-17th– National Road Safety Week
Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India is observing the Road Safety Week from 11th to 17th January 2023, under “Swachhata Pakhwada”, to propagate the cause of safer roads for all. During the Week, various activities is being organised throughout the Country to create awareness among general public and to give an opportunity to all stakeholders to contribute to the cause of road safety. This includes various awareness campaigns related to causes of road accidents and measures to prevent them. Various activities with School/college students, drivers and all other road users have also been planned.

Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADA) Evolution
The Academic Guest Lecture on the Evolution of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), conducted by department of safety and fire engineering, On 15th of February 2024, @ 2.00 PM Chef Guest: Dr.A.Baranraj, Associate Professor from Government College of Engineering, Salem. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of the historical development of ADAS, tracing its evolution from early concepts to modern technological implementations. Participants were exposed to the latest technological advancements driving the evolution of ADAS, including sensor technologies, artificial intelligence, and connectivity solutions. Chemical Process Safety
The Academic guest lecture on Chemical Process Safety was conducted at 10 am on 13-10-2023 by Mr. M. Raja, Assistant professor, Food Technology, EEC. He teach about safety in chemical industry is the most important one. Knowledge about all sort of chemical process were learnt and how the fire assessment should be done in industries were thought. Based on which prior precautions that has to be taken were learnt in detail. Participation learned importance of how to handle the fire and other safety precautions that has to be followed in chemical industries, etc. The program was coordinated by Dr. K. Boopathy ASP/SFE & Dr. K. Gajalakshmi AP/SFE.

He talks about identify, Analyze, Action, Monitor and Control on continuing process in Risk Management. Construction operation, Hazards and safety procedures. The seminar aims to promote environmentally-friendly and sustainable approaches to mining operations. This includes discussing methods to minimize environmental impact, conserve natural resources, and implement responsible mining practices. The primary objectives is to empower industrial safety engineers with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to excel in their careers within the mining industry. This involves discussing career pathways, professional development opportunities, and the role of safety engineers in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of workers and communities in mining operations. Resource Person: Mr.Saul Dev, Head of National Occupational Standards (NOS), OPAL-Oman Energy Association, (Mol/MEM), Sultanate of Oman. Participants gain a deeper understanding of sustainable mining practices, hazard identification techniques, safety risk assessment methodologies, and career pathways for industrial safety engineers in the mining industry. Gender Equity
On 15th of November 2023, Program on Gender Equity was conducted at Excel Engineering College from 2 pm to 3 pm where in students participated enthusiastically. Coordinator Dr. K. Gajalakshmi gave an opening remark about the section. The section was had over by her to the resource person Mrs.K.Megavarthini who further delivered her valuable thoughts and points regarding Gender Equity. Further coordinator winded up the section by delivering vote of thanks.

This workshop is to impart deep knowledge about ISO-PPE Kit & LOTO usages in the working areas, so that
(1) Students have Knowledge about the various PPE kit usages.
(2) Get knowledge in exhaust gas analyzer. Automotive Exhaust Gas Analyzers are primarily used to diagnose engine emission problems and thereby maximize engine performance.
(3) Understand the concept of LOTO. The purpose of this training is to provide a system for the lockout/tagout (LOTO) of energy isolating devices and there by protect employees from potentially hazardous energy. Wherever possible, energy isolating devices should be locked out.

On 26th of February 2024 at 9.30 AM. The students and faculty members are visited the Sakthi Sugars Ltd. Appakudal, Bhavani, Erode. The officers gave the instruction to the students about safety measures and guidelines to be followed during the plant visit. The students visited the sugar processing unit, Packing section and waste disposal section to understand the function of major units used at Sakthi Sugars Ltd. Presently the Sakthi Auto has a capacity to produce 24000 Tonnes / annum of S.G.IRON Castings, on a 100 Acre Land with all amenities for Workmen and Officers like Housing, Transport etc. Sakthi Auto is one of the major producers of S.G.Iron Castings, meeting the needs of most of the Automotive and other general Engineering Industries.
R&D Lab is attached to our Sakthi Auto with modern computerised equipments like Direct Reading Spectrometer, Carbon Sulphur determination, Universal Testing Machine, Scanning Electron Microscope, Industrial X-RAY Scanner etc.

Dr.S.P.Venkatesan HOD/ Aeronautical Engineering and Dr.N.Natarajan HOD/ Mechanical & Safety & Fire Engineering welcome the gathering and along with all the faculties and students. The program was coordinated by Mr.S.Prabhu Assistant Professor /Aeronautical Engineering, Mr.K.Arulkumar Assistant Professor/ Mechanical Engineering and Mr.B.Surender Assistant Professor Safety & Fire Engineering. Chief Guest Mr.D.Deepak, Manager, Product Engineering, Amphicore Technologies Pvt. Limited, Coimabatore. He delivered about services they offer for young entrepreneurs like mentoring, co-working space, legal accounting, and access labs to company registration. The resource person spoke the successful start-ups in which they helped. Also he shared his industry experience to the participants, achievements and awards in the interactive session. The participants learned about the same and clarified their doubts.
