The Department of Petrochemical Technology was established in the year 2021 by the Excel Group Institutions. The Department offers a 4-year B.Tech. Degree Programme in Petrochemical Technology, which is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. The department has well equipped and state-of-the-art laboratories with sophisticated equipments. Our faculty members are well-qualified and are in constant pursuit of learning recent developments in their respective fields, along with rich experience in academics and industry. Petrochemical technology graduates have plenty of job opportunities in manufacturing and service sector industries such as oil and gas reservoirs, specialty chemicals, rubber and plastics, nanotechnology, mining process, mineral based industries, paints, synthetic fibers, chemical engineering designs, nuclear energy .In addition, they enjoy increasing opportunities in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and environmental engineering. Our graduates are placed in reputed industries like Tamilnadu Petro Products Ltd., Southern petrochemicals Industries Ltd.,(SPIC), Thirumalai Chemicals Ltd, Biocon, Asian Paints, Nerolac Paints and Madras Fertilizers Ltd. Our alumni are pursuing higher studies in reputed institutes in India and abroad.

Department of Petrochemical Technology takes immense pride in the fact that our students receive the highest quality of education by providing necessary infrastructure and a team of qualified and motivated faculty all under one roof. This is facilitated by closely monitoring the delivery content and teaching learning process and practical learning imparted in laboratories. Our excellence is not just confined to the classroom; we are equally active in organising conferences, workshops, seminars, guest lectures and other co-curricular activities to expose students to the aspects beyond the curriculum, and to provide an opportunity to interact with experts thus adding value to their profession. Our placement cell is closely associated with industry and has an excellent track record. After a rigorous intellectual session the students have ample scope to relax in co-curricular activities in sports and games. We warmly welcome the young aspiring students to be a part of us while learning, and pass out successfully as valuable citizen.

Programme Outcomes (POs)
Program Outcome describe the knowledge, skills and attitudes the students should have at the end of a four year engineering program.
Engineering Graduates will be able to:
- Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
- Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
- Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
- Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
- Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
- The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
- Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
- Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
- Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
- Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
- Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
- Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Department of Petrochemical Technology, has Organized Academic Guest Lecture on “EXPLORING EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES IN CHEMCAL INDUSTRIES” On 20.02.2024, Dr.K. Senthil Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, Kongu College of Engineering.. He interacted with students about the various trends in chemical and oil industry and skills needed by engineers.
Industrial Safety In Petrochemical Industries
Department of Petrochemical Technology, has Organized Academic Guest Lecture on “Industrial safety in Petrochemical Industries” On 28th July 2023, By Dr. M. Vijay Prabhu, EIA Expert/ Hydrology GTMS, Dharmapuri. He interacted with students about the health and safety issues and Geo Information system (GIS) used in Crude oil industry and in various parts of Tamilnadu.
The Production Of Paper From Wood Pulp -An Overview
Department of Petrochemical Technology, has Organized Industry Guest lecture on “THE PRODUCTION OF PAPER FROM WOOD PULP -AN OVERVIEW” on 08.05.2023. The session handled by the expert Mr. Karthik B, Assistant Manager, Seshasayee Paper and Boards Ltd, Pallipalayam. He explained in detail about the advanced techniques in paper production from pulp and various innovations in paper industry.
A One Day State Level Seminar
Department of Petrochemical Technology has conducted a one day seminar on 29.02.2024 “Socio Economic Impact On Waste Water Treatment Practices For Sustainable Future” in order to spread knowledge among the students of various colleges in Tamilnadu. Subsequently, the morning session was conducted by our guest speaker, Dr.N.Sivarajasekar, Assisstant Professor, Dept of Biotechnology, Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore. During his lecture he introduced major challenges in bio waste water technology. The afternoon session was led by our Guest, Mr.S.Subramaniyan, Directore, ECO TEX CHEM Pvt Ltd. Rayapuram, Tiruppur. The event is successful in enlighten the students about the sustainable methods of treatment techniques future generations.
A One Day State Level Seminar
A One day Seminar has been conducted on 27 th October 2023, by Department of Petrochemical Technology entitled “Advance Technology for Solid waste management and Impact on solid waste treatment methods” in order to spread knowledge among the students of various colleges in Tamilnadu. External participants of 72 students from various colleges. Subsequently, the morning session was conducted by our guest speaker, Dr.M.Rajasimman, Professor,Chemical Engineering, Annamalai university,Annamalainagar Chidambaram. During his lecture, he introduced major challenges in industrial waste water treatment.. The afternoon session was led by our Chief Guest, Dr.S.Venkatesan, Professor and Head, Department of PetroChemical Technology, BIT Campus,Anna University, Tiruchirappalli.

Department of Petrochemical Technology, Excel Engineering College, Namakkal, has Organized a One day State level Workshop on ” Engineering Greener Future: Sustainable Application of Green concepts and Wastewater Treatment methods” on 13 th SEP 2023 at APJ HALL .Resource persons Dr.M.Arivazhagan,Prof/Chem Engg,NIT, Trichy and Mr.P.Shravankumar,General Manager,Cotton Blossom Pvt Ltd,Perundurai. The Convener of this program is Dr.G.Srinivasan HOD/PCT & Program Coordinator is Mr.C.Harshaavardhan AP/PCT.A total of 172 students from other college has participated in this event. Guest shared their knowledge about their experience with the students.

Ayudha Pooja Celebration
Department of Petrochemical Technology, Excel Engineering College, Namakkal, has celebrated Ayudha pooja on 20th October 2023 in our department laboratory. Ayudha Pooja, a traditional Hindu festival, holds significance in honoring the tools and instruments that are an integral part of our work in the laboratory. The celebration aimed to foster a sense of appreciation for the equipment and tools that contribute to our academic and research endeavors.

One Day Sports Event
Department of Petrochemical Technology has organised a one day Sports event for our students on 01.04.2023 at Excel Campus Ground. Students were able to play indoor games tournament in Forenoon session and Football tournament in Afternoon session. Football Tournament was a resounding success, providing fans with unforgettable moments and showcasing the best of football talent. As the final whistle blew, it marked the end of a thrilling competition that will be remembered for years to come.
