YRC Club Awareness Program

Youth Red Cross Club of Excel college for Commerce and Science, Organized a Mental Wellbeing Awareness Program titled “Voice of Hope: Preventing Suicide through Connection” on July 18, 2025, 10.30 am at Velappar Hall.  The event aimed to promote mental wellbeing and prevent suicide among students.  The program began with prayer song Tamil Thaai Vazhthu, creating a calm and respectful atmosphere, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp ceremony, symbolizing the removal of darkness and the spread of knowledge.  Mrs. M. R. Sowmiya, Assistant Professor, Department of AI&DS, welcomed the gathering warmly.  Dr. R. Vimal Nishant, Principal, Excel College for Commerce and Science, spoke about the importance of mental wellbeing and the collective role in preventing suicide.  Dr. T. Shankar, chief  IQAC, emphasized the significance of awareness and support, highlighting mental health’s impact on academic performance and quality of  life.  Dr. K. Munusamy, Programme Head, School of Computer Science, honoured the dignitaries. Dr. K. Manjula, Programme Head, School of Arts and Science, introduced the chief guests with details of their contributions.  Dr.Vetrivel presented an insightful session through the “Voices of Hope” program, focusing on the power of human connection in suicide prevention.  Dr. R. Vanathi shared a comprehensive talk on Emotional Intelligence, discussing how emotions affect our lives and relationships and how self-awareness, empathy, and emotional regulation help individuals achieve personal and professional success.  JCI K. Manikandan inspired students to prioritize their mental wellbeing through a motivating special address.  Mr. Balavinayagam, Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil and YRC Coordinator, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt appreciation to the dignitaries, faculty, organizers, and students for their active support and participation.
