National Handloom Day – 13.08.24

On August 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM, the Department of Textile and Fashion Designing (TFD) and Costume Design and Fashion (CDF) at Excel College for Commerce and Science (ECCS) organized a Handloom Awareness Fashion Show in collaboration with Kovai Makkal Sevai Maiyam and Dreamzone. Held at Excel Convention Hall, the event aimed to highlight the importance of handloom in the fashion industry. The program began with a prayer song. Dr. K. Christie Jennifer, Head of TFD and CDF, welcomed the gathering, stressing the role of handloom in preserving cultural heritage and promoting sustainable fashion. Principal Dr. R. Vimal Nishant emphasized the college’s commitment to blending tradition with innovation in his presidential address. The event was honoured by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Vice Chairman Dr. N. Madhan Karthick, Director of Excel Public School M. Kalaiyarasi, and Executive Director Dr K. Bommanna Raja. Chief Guest Dr. S. Sangeetha, a logistic expert, psychologist, and cosmetologist, delivered an inspiring speech on the cultural and psychological impact of handloom. The highlight of the event was a vibrant fashion show featuring 350 students showcasing handloom garments. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. S. N. Priyadharshini, followed by the National Anthem, fostering a sense of pride and unity.
