Industrial Visit – 13.02.2025

The Industrial Visit to the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT), Salem, on 13th February 2025, was organized for I and II year students of the Department of Textile and Fashion Designing & Costume Design and Fashion. The visit aimed to provide practical exposure to handloom weaving, fabric production, and also textile innovations, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and industry practices. Upon arrival, students were warmly welcomed by IIHT officials, followed by an introductory session on the history and significance of the handloom sector. They explored various sections, including the weaving unit, yarn and fabric testing lab, dyeing and printing unit, and design innovation center. Live demonstrations of handloom weaving, yarn testing, natural dyeing, and traditional block printing enhanced their understanding of textile production. Experts also explained modern technological advancements in handloom production and discussed entrepreneurial opportunities in the textile industry. Students actively participated in discussions, gaining insights into loom mechanisms, fabric quality assessment, and sustainable textile practices. The visit provided valuable hands-on experience, reinforcing their academic learning. Overall, the visit to IIHT, Salem, was highly educational and insightful, offering students a deeper understanding of the handloom industry and career prospects.
