Department of Human Anatomy
Anatomy, a field in Medical Sciences,is concerned with the Identification and Description of the Body Structures of Living Things. Gross anatomy involves the study of major body structures by Dissection and Observation concerned only with the human body.
Department of Human Physiology & Biochemistry
Human Physiology is the study that seeks to understand the mechanisms that work to keep the human body alive and functioning, Through scientific enquiry into the nature of mechanical, physical, and biochemical functions of humans, their organs, and the cells of which they are composed.
Department of Homoeopathic Pharmacy
Homoeopathic Pharmacy is taught in the first year of BHMS. This subject deals with the Art and Science of Collecting, Compounding, Combining, Preparing, Preserving and Standardizing Drugs And Medicines according to the Homoeopathic Principle; and also Dispensing Medicines or Remedies according to the Prescriptions of Physicians, which are used in Homoeopathic Practice.
Homoeopathic Pharmacy is different from the conventional pharmacy in which medical doctors and other healthcare professionals (such as Nurses, Pharmacists, and Therapists) treat symptoms and diseases using drugs, radiation, or surgery. It differs from conventional pharmacy in sources of drugs, collection of drugs, their preparation, dosage forms and dispensing of the drugs.
Department of Organon of Medicine with Homoeopathic Philosophy
Organon of Medicine and Homoeopathic Philosophy is the bedrock of Homoeopathy as it contains the basic fundamentals in treating the patients. And it is taught to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Year BHMS students according to the syllabus prescribed by Central Council of Homoeopathy, New Delhi. Special focus is emphasized on teaching Aphorisms of Organon along with Philosophy including Psychology.
Along with the theory classes, the students also get special training in the practical and applied part of Organon including clinical sessions and case discussions. The Department is well equipped with a Museum including Portraits and Charts. The Department also has a separate well-equipped library with all essential Source books and Reference books including journals and articles. Seminars and Inter-departmental sessions are conducted regularly to improve the Knowledge and Clinical Skills of students aiming at making them more professionally competent.
Department of Homoeopathic Materia Medica
Homoeopathic Materia Medica is a branch of science concerned with the study of homoeopathic drugs used in the treatment of patients as per the syllabus prescribed by Central Council of Homoeopathy. Materia Medica is one of the core subject which is taught to all the students of Homoeopathic Medical Colleges starting from the 1st year to the final year of BHMS.
The department imparts proper knowledge among students on drug substances and its actions and prepares them as a right prescriber by studying each drug synthetically, analytically and comparatively to be an effective physician. Emphasis is given on therapeutic diagnosis from the Homoeopathic point of view.All the faculty members in the department are made to have postings in the OPD where they are involved in patient care.
Department of Pathology & Microbiology including Parasitology
The department of Pathology and Microbiology is a part of undergraduate course in Homoeopathy. These subjects are taught to Second Year BHMS students.
The Department has got the Infrastructure as well as the Experienced Staff who bring in innovative teaching methods to present the knowledge and provide a clear understanding of Pathology and Microbiology, based on the syllabus prescribed by the regulatory authorities, namely, The Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical University, Chennai and CCH, New Delhi.
The Department has 2 separate Laboratories (One for Pathology and one for Microbiology& Parasitology) which are spacious, well lighted and ventilated.
The laboratories can accommodate 100 students in 2 batches and are well equipped with sufficient specimens, equipment, instruments and other facilities as prescribed by CCH. Each lab has an attached preparation room cum store room. Adequate water supply, electricity, LPG connection, fire extinguisher is also available. The Demonstration room can accommodate about 50 students.
Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology
The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, is a part of undergraduate course in Homoeopathy. It is taught to the Second BHMS students.
The Department has got the Infrastructure and Experienced staff bringing in innovative teaching methods to present the knowledge and provide a clear understanding in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, based on the syllabus prescribed by the regulatory authorities namely The Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical University, Chennai and CCH, New Delhi.
The Department has a laboratory which is spacious, well lighted and ventilated. The laboratory can accommodate 50 students and is well equipped with sufficient specimens, equipment, instruments and other facilities as prescribed by CCH.
The Department is well equipped with Museum, Staff Room and Demonstration Room. All the Legal Procedure Acts, Professional Ethics and Etiquette, Mechanical Injuries, Post-Mortem Changes, Toxicology, etc., are taught in detail to the students.
The Department museum consists of Charts, Model, all kindsof Weapons, Bones, Poisons (Organic and Inorganic), Chemicals, etc. We also have instruments ranging from small shaving blades to large axe andmultiple bone sets of all ages. We also have various toxins derived from plants, animals, metals, minerals, etc.
Department of Surgery & Homoeopathic Therapeutics
This department deals with the provision of Surgical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services in Homoeopathy. The subject comprises of General and Systemic branches of Ophthalmology, Applied Dentistry and ENT, including Orthopaedics.
The Department of Surgery is equipped with essential instruments as per CCH norms. We have a demonstration lab provided with a mannequin to teach students.
Surgery is taught from the Second Year and as main subject from the Third Year. We have surgical OPD & IPD in our hospital for training of students in Clinical Examination, Case-Taking, Diagnosis and Homoeopathic Treatment of Surgical Cases. Minor OT procedures are conducted and are trained for the same. Broad exposure is facilitated through clinical postings for Third Year BHMS students in various Allopathic hospital postings where they acquire immense knowledge about surgical procedure.
Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
The museum is equipped with Laminated Charts, Models (Purchased), Clay Models done by Students, Specimens Displayed in glass containers with neat labeling. We have dummies of birth simulators, pelvis and fetal skull which are used to demonstrate normal and abnormal labour. We have models on the stages of conception for 9 months which is used to explain the changes during pregnancy.
The department library has 42 books on Obstetrics and Gynaecology which is used as reference books. The demonstration hall has a white board and accommodation for 50 students. The instruction imparted consists of:
Theory classes
Bed side clinics – where the students will take the cases and be present in the Maternity ward
Case Discussions – consisting of discussion about the Diagnosis, Investigations, General Management, Remedial Management and the Prognosis of the case
Demonstrations - Seminars done with the help of Dummy Pelvis for the 2nd and the 3rd Year BHMS Students with postings in the Maternity ward of clinics.
The teaching done through Power point presentation, Videos, Demonstrations and Specimens
Normal Labour& Abnormal Labour demonstration through Dummy Pelvis Third year BHMS students get postings in Allopathic Maternity Hospitals, wherein they gain practical knowledge by observing and assisting Obstetricians in the conduction of Normal Labour, Caesarean section and the various complications during Pregnancy and Labour.
Department of Practice of Medicine
This subject makes a great contribution to the curriculum and it is taught in the Third and Final year of the BHMS course. The Subject emphasizes in depth the knowledge of Causation, Evolution, Symptomatology, Progress, Complications, Prevention and Management of various diseased states of all the systems of the human body. It also helps the students to understand the therapeutic aspect of treatment in clinical practice.
Practice of Medicine is a clinical subject to be learned through theory and clinical classes. Theory and clinical classes for the third and final BHMS students are being conducted according to the CCH syllabus.
General Medicine OPD functions on all days under the Dept of PM. All general medical cases including Respiratory, Cardiac diseases, loco motor, neurology, pediatric, dermatology, etc., are taken care of. Special care is given to the treatment for lifestyle diseases like DM, hypercholesterolemia & high BP and other conditions leading to heart attack. Baseline investigations including ECG and X- ray are being done in the hospital.
Department of Community Medicine
As per the prescribed syllabus of The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Excel Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital has a fully equipped community medicine lab. Community medicine is one of the subjects of the Final year BHMS curriculum. Introduction to community medicine is done during the 3rd Year BHMS. Students, during their Third Year are expected to complete 30 hours of Theory classes and 15 hours of Practical classesto be followed in their final year with 100 hours of theory classes and 100 hours of practical, as part of their curriculum.
Practical classes include field visits to Integrated Diary production and preservation units like Aavin, Water Purification Plant like Water supply & Sewage Board and Sewage Disposal & Treatment Plant. In addition these, students are taken for Industrial Visits with an object to understand Good Manufacturing Practices, Occupational Hazards and other safety systems or practices adopted in the Industry.
Department of Case Taking & Repertory
The Department of Repertory has a well furnished and equipped library with numerous reference books and Computer lab with software for the use of staff, interns, and students. The class room has charts and projector facility for better learning. The subject is taught to the 3rd and the Final Year students.
The students are trained in clinical knowledge in OPD and IPD, clinical meetings and Tutorial sessions. Beyond curriculum activities like Drug Picture Presentation, Theme Based Rubric Hunt is also done in the Clinical Classes.
